Tired Pony é um projeto paralelo do vocalista do Snow Patrol, Gary Lightbody.
A banda é composta por Gary, Peter Buck [R.E.M.], Scott McCaughey [R.E.M.], Troy Stewart, Iain Archer, Richard Colburn [Belle & Sebastian] e Garret “Jacknife” Lee.
A banda vem sido descrita como “country”, mas Lightbody fez questão de esclarecer que “ela só tem uma pegada country, assim não haverá nenhum desapontamento ou confusão quando ele sair e não soar como Waylon Jennings ou Gram Parsons.”
O primeiro álbum, The Place We Ran From, levou cerca de uma semana para ser gravado, em janeiro de 2010, em Portland, Oregon, EUA. Além dos 7 membros oficiais, o álbum contou ainda com as participações de M. Ward, Zooey Deschanel (She & Him) e Tom Smith (The Editors), além de Esme Lee e Betsey Lee, filhas de Garret Lee, nos backing vocals de “I am a Landslide”.
O interessante é que a tracklist divulgada por Gary enquanto ainda estavam gravando o álbum é bastante diferente da tracklist final. Confira:
